It was made a sanatorium for the British in 1829, during the First Anglo-Burmese War. A serious uprising by the Khasis against the British followed in 1829 and after the Khasi leader Tirot Sing surrendered to the mighty British military, this place was made the British headquarters which was then named ‘Yeddo’. The name ‘Shillong’ was adopted later due to its location below the Shillong Peak. In 1874, it became the capital of composite Assam under British rule.

Also visit the Don Bosco Museum which is on the way to Shillong located at Mawlai, where you get an idea about the culture, people and tradition of all the seven states of NorthEast. Shillong to Mawphlang(the cleanest village in Asia) – Dawki – Tamabil Indo Bangladesh Border and evening back to Shillong halt.
After breakfast drive to Dawki, Dawki-Tamabil is one of the few road border crossings between India and Bangladesh. It is used mainly for coal transportation to Bangladesh. The beautiful Dawki river with greenish-blueish water so clear that one can see the bottom of the river even from as high as the bridge over the river. Boating in the Umgot River of Dawki is a must while visiting Meghalaya.
Double Decker Root Bridge, handmade bridges from aerial roots of trees by the local Khasi and Jaintia people. You need to cross the rivers through the hanging bridges and trek for 3 hours to reach the root bridges, exploring the unparalleled beauty of the Khasi hills. It’s an amazing experience to take a dip in the cold waters of the natural stream.By evening back to Shillong overnight at shillong.

Drive to Mawphlang Sacred Forest (46km, 2hours approx.), located in the East Khasi hills district, famous for the Mawphlang Sacred forest.The sacred grove has an amazing life form of plants, flowering trees, orchids and butterflies which is an ideal destination for nature lovers. Enroute see the Seven sister waterfall.
We will visit the Lady Hydari’s Park and Ward’s lake in the evening and boating is optional on your own.

Day 4: Shillong to Guwahati (99 kms) evening Brahmaputra river cruise halt.
After breakfast drive Shillong to Guwahati hotel check in, evening visit river cruise dinner halt.
Day 5: Temple visit and transfer to airport.
Early morning visit kamakhya Balaji temple and after breakfast check out and transfer to Airport or Railway Station. Your trip ends with lot of memories.
